Description
Our natural sweet wormwood essential oil for foods is obtained from the plant with the botanical name Artemisia annua. In international practice, the product is known as Sweet wormwood natural essential oil for food. The oil displays an amber yellowish-brown tone that comes from the pigments of the leaves used. The tone combines with an aroma of a spicy, herbal and sweet-woody type. The aroma remains clean and clearly defined, as steam distillation of the leaves transfers only the volatile fraction of this plant raw material into the liquid. The volatile fraction forms an entirely natural composition without added preservatives and colourants. The natural cultivation of the plants determines this purity, which is why the product retains the natural profile of the leaf raw material. In addition, only substances of plant origin enter the liquid. The plant origin leads to an annual herb of the Asteraceae family, which develops and completes its cycle within a single warm season. The herb forms a dense leaf mass, and its leaves bear glandular hairs that accumulate the aromatic substances determining the character of the oil. The plantations for this raw material are maintained in Bulgaria, and the species is also present in natural habitats. Alongside the Bulgarian origin, an advantage is also provided by the use of the leaves only, which remain the sole part of the plant in this raw material. The rich character of the oil derives from the substances in the glandular hairs. The glandular hairs cover the aromatic leaves of sweet wormwood and determine the expressiveness of the product. The product retains a strong aroma and a uniform liquid consistency.

Application
Natural sweet wormwood essential oil takes part in the food industry as a flavouring of dairy products, soups and savoury snacks. Dairy products and soups receive from it a spicy and herbal aroma with a sweet-woody finish. The aromatic profile fits into fatty and salty bases, which is why the oil combines well with milk fat and broth. Milk fat and broth have a warm tone close to the amber yellow-brownish tint of the raw material. The tint blends with the colour of these bases. Broths and cream soups include the natural ingredient as a flavouring and aromatic component that builds the botanical character of the finished dish. Besides soups, the essential oil is incorporated into seasoned butter and into cream cheese spreads. The cream cheese spreads distribute the ingredient in a soft mass. Alongside the cream cheese spreads, savoury snack recipes contain the raw material in the seasoning coating of crackers and pretzel sticks, where it carries the taste of the herb without visible particles. The oil plays a similar seasoning role in dry mixes for soups and broths, while sweet wormwood gives the finished dish a botanical note.
